They are fake things created by lighting, makeup, cameras, and computers. But because of how we view perfection, we will continue to try and attain it, and sadly, we will hide the things we consider to be flaws. Often, it’s these ‘flaws’ that actually make us beautiful.
One thing that Brandalyn does at her job as a care worker is to paint the ladies’ nails. One particular day, she was painting a new resident’s nails. They chatted a while and when it was time to choose a color, the lady said she would like her nail painted clear. Brandalyn was surprised. She asked why she would choose clear instead of a different, fun color. The answer broke her heart.
She said, “My hands are ugly, I don’t want to draw attention to them.” This gets right to the heart of the matter; we always try to hide our flaws. But, Brandalyn had an amazing response.
She replied that she finds her hands beautiful because they are a reflection of her life’s experiences. Brandalyn said: “Your hands tell the story of your life. They tell the story of love, of care and adventure. These hands have touched and held things that most people can only wish to one day.”
She then painted her nails pink! Please share this wonderful story and help remind others what beauty truly means.
