In 1999, Dolly was honored for her lifetime of work with an induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. She’s the most decorated country music performer of all time, with 41 top ten country albums and 25 Billboard number 1’s – more than any other female artist. In addition to her positively stellar music career, Dolly has succeeded as an actress, businesswoman, and philanthropist. She even has a theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennesse called Dollywood. Perhaps the most amazing thing about Dolly Parton is that she has accomplished enough amazing things to last several lifetimes, and yet she continues to perform and remain a relevant figure in music, entertainment, and pop culture. She is truly timeless.
She continues to remind us of her talent, most recently with a collaboration with the popular acapella group, Pentatonix. Together, they breathed new life into the popular song, Jolene. The performance as a whole is stunning, but what struck me was Dolly’s presence. A diminutive woman, she stands out against this group of modern singers, in the best way possible. Throughout the wonderful harmonies, her unique voice and presence rises above everyone else’s and we are reminded of what makes her so special.
